Temporary Visitation Guidelines Effective Immediately

In an abundance of caution, we are temporarily adjusting the general visitation policy at Harrison County Hospital to protect patients, staff and the community.

**There will be no visitors allowed for COVID-19 positive patients across all units at this time, unless for compassionate visitation exception. Compassionate visitation exceptions will be made on a case-by-case basis.

**All visitors must wear a mask/face covering at all times.


Labor & Delivery: Two visitors will be allowed to be designated by the mother.

Emergency Department: One visitor, after appropriate screening, will be permitted to visit a non COVID-19 Emergency Room patient.

All Inpatient Units: One visitor, after appropriate screening, will be permitted to visit a non COVID-19 inpatient during the visiting hours of

8:00 am – 5:00 pm daily.

Surgery: One visitor will be allowed to accompany the patient for surgery/procedure after appropriate screening.

Other Diagnostic/Outpatient Areas: One support or immediate family member may accompany a patient after appropriate screening.

Physician Offices: Patients will not be allowed to be accompanied into their appointment unless one person is needed for communication or other assistance. Pediatric patients will be accompanied by one parent/guardian.

We have implemented a mandatory patient/visitor screening process at all three entrances, the Emergency Department, Main Entrance, and Medical Office Building.


Harrison County Hospital recommends the following:

  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick
  • For those at higher risk it is recommended that you avoid crowds and observe social distancing
  • Wash your hands frequently at least 20 seconds with soap and water
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands
  • Cover cough/sneeze with a tissue and then throw the tissue in the trash
  • Clean/disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces regularly
  • Only go to the Emergency Room when symptoms indicate, not for testing

What to Do If You Think You’re Sick

Call your healthcare professional if you feel sick with fever, cough, or difficulty breathing, and have been in close contact with a person known to have COVID-19, or if you live in or have recently traveled from an area with ongoing spread of COVID-19.

If you are worried about whether you have COVID-19, your decision on whether to seek medical care should not change just because of this new virus. Unlike the flu, your doctor cannot automatically test you for COVID-19 to rule it out as the cause of your illness. If you’re feeling ill, but otherwise would not have sought medical care, it’s best for you to stay at home.


IU Health has launched a virtual clinic to offer individuals in Indiana regardless of age FREE Coronavirus (COVID-19) screenings using the IU Health Virtual Visit app. Staffed 24/7 with IU Health physicians, advance practice providers and registered nurses, the clinic will screen patients from home, potentially eliminating the need to visit physician offices, urgent cares or emergency departments.

The team will recommend and facilitate appropriate pathways for care, and provide direct access and communication with local hospitals as medically appropriate.

How can you access the hub?

  1. Download the free IU Health Virtual Visits app (Google Play or iTunes) or enroll on your computer.
  2. Enroll by creating a free login and completing your personal profile.
  3. Connect with the virtual hub, select ìCoronavirus Screenî and find the appropriate pathway for care.Click here to see visual, step-by-step instructions.

Be sure to allow access to your camera and microphone if you are using the app. If you are connecting via desktop, be sure to test your computer settings.

If you don\’t have access to a computer or smartphone you can call the Indiana State Department of Health at 317-233-7125 for general questions regarding Coronavirus. If you have an emergency, call 911.


You may call the Kentucky COVID-19/Coronavirus Hotline, operated by Norton Healthcare, with general questions at(800) 722-5725, option 5. Do not call the hotline for emergencies. If you have an emergency, call 911.

If you decide to seek medical care for suspected coronavirus/COVID-19, please use Norton eCare for a virtual visit with a Norton Healthcare provider from your mobile phone or computer. Sign in to MyNortonChart to get started. If you don’t have a MyNortonChart account, sign up at Norton eCare providers will screen you and determine the next steps in your treatment, much like an office visit.

If Norton eCare is not an option for you, be sure to call ahead before you go to a doctor’s office or any immediate care center. Tell them about your recent travel and symptoms and they will help direct you to the appropriate level of care.

HCHF Employee Relief Fund

These are trying times for everyone, but especially for the health care workers on the front line every day.

While we work diligently to prepare, we are also listening to our employees to find out what they need. We have had many calls from community members asking how they can help. This is one way.

We have heard from staff that childcare is an issue, so we are working on solutions. Some staff are facing paying their normal childcare provider who may be closed, and paying another childcare provider just so that they can come to work.

We have hopes that our Employee Relief Fund can help ease some of this burden for the staff that we need and appreciate.
